Robert Belleville -- MBA
Robert Belleville was appointed
as an Industry Director on
25 February 2010.
Robert was employed by AAMI
for over 37 years, culminating
in his appointment as Chief
Executive Officer in 2002; shortly thereafter he
added the position of Chief Executive of Promina's
Direct Division, adding APIA, Shannons and Just
Car Insurance to his responsibilities. Following the
successful offer by Suncorp to take over Promina,
he was appointed Group Executive, Personal Lines,
which added GIO and Suncorp portfolios to his
oversight. Despite retiring in December 2008, he
stayed on with Suncorp as a part-time Consultant
until September 2009.
Currently, Robert is a member of the Board of IMA,
a joint venture between NRMA and RACV, and is a
member of two sub-committees of the IMA Board.
In addition, he is the Chair of the Advisory Board
of The Innovation Group Pty Ltd.
David Coorey -- BA, LLB
David Coorey was appointed as
a Consumers’ Director on 1 June
2009 and re-appointed for a
further term of three years on
11 May 2012.
David is currently a senior lawyer
with the Consumer Law team
of the Civil Litigation section of the Legal Aid
Commission of NSW, which he joined in 2002.
He previously worked with the law firm Freehills
for over three years, including a one year pro bono
secondment to Kingsford Legal Centre.
David has worked in various areas of civil law, including
insurance, credit, consumer and trade practices
litigation, as well as human rights and discrimination
law. Since commencing with the Legal Aid Commission,
he has been actively involved in policy work in
consumer law, with particular interest in policy issues
that affect consumers of insurance products.
Jennifer Darbyshire -- LLB
(Hons), BA, LLM, GAICD
Jennifer Darbyshire was
appointed as an Industry
Director on 8 June 2012.
Jennifer is General Counsel and
Company Secretary for National
Australia Bank’s UK Banking Operations. Her
previous roles at NAB include leading the Product
Regulation Resolution legal team supporting the
bank's Australian and Asian operations. The team
also managed major litigation and large scale non-
Jennifer has previously worked in private legal
practice (including Mallesons in Melbourne and
Linklaters in London) and in major Australian
corporations (including Coles Myer). She has
a corporate legal and executive background
with extensive transactional, governance and
Jennifer is also the Chair of Heide Museum of Modern
Art. Previous directorships include St Vincent's &
Mercy Private Hospital (2006–2011) and St Vincent’s
Advisory Council Melbourne (2011–2012).
Brendan French -- BA, PhD
Brendan French was appointed
as an Industry Director on 1 June
2009. He retired as a Director
of FOS on 31 May 2012.
Brendan is General Manager
of Customer Relations for the
Commonwealth Bank Group. For several years before
joining the Commonwealth Bank, he was Deputy
Energy and Water Ombudsman NSW. He also
currently lectures part time in the School of Law
at the University of Western Sydney.
Brendan has extensive experience as a dispute
resolution practitioner, trainer and author and was
for some years a director in a leading consultancy
firm assisting clients in the public, corporate and
community sectors. He has published widely to both
general and academic audiences. He received his
doctorate in the history of ideas from the University
of Sydney and was awarded the Australian
Postgraduate Award. He is also a Director of the
Society of Consumer Affairs Professionals.
Catriona Lowe -- LLB
Catriona Lowe was appointed
as a Consumers' Director on
1 June 2009 and re-appointed
for a further term of three years
on 11 May 2012.
Catriona is Co-Chief Executive
Officer of the Consumer Action Law Centre and
the Chair of the Consumers' Federation of Australia.
Before joining the Consumer Action Law Centre, she
was a Director in the Australian Competition and
Consumer Commission's Policy and Liaison Branch.
She was Deputy Director and the first Principal
Solicitor of the legal practice at Consumer Law
Centre Victoria and spent five years in private
practice as a litigation lawyer. She has undertaken
consumer advocacy on issues affecting Australian
consumers across a range of markets, including
financial services, utilities, telecommunications and
general consumer products and services.
Catriona is also a member of the Board of the
National Information Centre on Retirement
Investment (NICRI) and a member of the Motor
Car Traders' Guarantee Fund Claims Committee.
